IMO quickly develops normalization product with COVID-related datasets after moving to Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud with support from Six Nines IT.
Health care providers in clinical settings rely on electronic health record (EHR) systems to aid them in patient record keeping and patient billing. An important part of the billing process involves the use of clinical interface terminology applications that provide medical dictionaries which automatically tie to the correct billing code. During the COVID pandemic, health care providers must have access to accurate COVID-related datasets, terminology, and billing codes.
After moving to the cloud using AWS with support from Six Nines IT, IMO was able to create their new IMO Precision Normalize product completely on AWS. The product standardizes inconsistent diagnosis, procedure, medication, and lab data from diverse systems into common, clinically validated terminology for healthcare providers. It helps companies analyze the massive amounts of disparate healthcare data to provide clinical insights, improved billing, and quality reporting along with insights on how to operate more efficiently.
“Creating the new IMO Precision Normalize product and COVID datasets on AWS was a critical IMO priority. Using AWS allowed us to quickly create COVID-related terminology, datasets, and products needed by hospitals and healthcare providers during the COVID-19."- Scott Singer, IMO Senior Software Engineering Manager
IMO’s Move to the Cloud
IMO wanted to move away from its existing infrastructure to a modern cloud solution. IMO services and data were hosted in on-premises data centers, and also leveraged other vendors. This led to an overly complex environment for IMO staff to navigate. IMO engaged Six Nines IT to develop a HIPAA-compliant cloud migration assessment and all-in Windows migration plan to move IMO to the cloud using AWS.
IMO’s priorities were enhanced product development capabilities, improved customer service, reliability, and downtime. In addition, IMO wanted to take advantage of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools in AWS for product enhancements and other innovation. The cloud migration project began in 2018 and the complete IMO move to AWS was completed in December, 2019. The IMO migration to the AWS cloud became important as the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded. AWS allows IMO to bring products and services to market faster.
